Charles Baxter Marcom III, age 59, of Surf City, died Friday, July 4, 2008 at his home.  He was born September 19, 1948, in Raleigh, to Charles Baxter and Lorraine Strickland Marcom.

He attended North Carolina State University and Campbell University before joining the U.S. Marine Corp.  After his service of 11 years, he worked for National Weather Service as a meteorologist for 26 years before retiring in 2003.

He is survived by two children, son, Charles B. Marcom IV and his wife, Shannon; daughter, Catherine Marcom Lane and her husband, Michael of Wake Forest; sister, Sheila Marcom Talton-DeWitt of Holly Springs; grandson, Holt Michael Lane; step-granddaughter, Alexandria Brittany Lane; and a nephew, Stephen Mason Talton of Apex.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 from 7:009:00 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 East Millbrook Road, Raleigh. His funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
